Around the world, COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® projects unite PPG employees to create colorful transformations in our communities. Recently, PPG shared the joys of this program with our customer, Penske.
PPG completes COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project with Penske
More than 100 volunteers from PPG, Penske and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway came together to paint and create colorful spaces at the Hawthorne Community Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Center provides community members with services and programs that address the economic, educational, financial, social, recreational and cultural needs. It also provides early childhood and school age programs for children and youth, social activities for seniors, and opportunities for adults to build financial stability.
“I think it’s important for us to enhance and give back to the race markets that welcome our series in the United States and Canada,” said Josef Newgarden, driver of the No. 2 PPG Chevrolet. “PPG and their Colorful Communities initiative are a perfect example of how everyone can come together to do just that. Centers like the Hawthorne Community Center in Indianapolis are so important to communities as a hub for activity, and they provide a vital resource for their residents.”
Through the joint volunteers’ efforts, the Center’s cafeteria, gym, offices and hallways received a needed refresh intended to enhance the facility and create engaging spaces. The volunteers also created an inspirational mural.
“At Colorful Communities projects around the world, we empower our employees to complete revitalization projects that support our communities and local organizations with fresh paint and new colors,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director, PPG Foundation and corporate global social responsibility. “When projects are completed in partnership with our customers, every can of paint and volunteer effort goes further to create vibrant, bright futures.”
