Throughout April and May 2024, four COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® projects were completed to create beautiful, refreshed spaces for young people in our communities.

“We know that fresh color and updated spaces have a positive impact on young people. Spending time surrounded by vibrant and comforting design elements goes a long way,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director, PPG Foundation and corporate global social responsibility.

In Toronto, Canada, PPG employees and National Hockey League (NHL®) staff teamed up to beautify the entrance, theater, recreational space and hallways of BGC Toronto Kiwanis as part of the Colorful Communities program. With colors aimed to create engagement in spaces for learning, the transformed areas will create a source of warmth and comfort as children and youth participate in after-school and summer camp programs. At the Thelma Lovett YMCA in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a dozen members of PPG’s Automotive business’ global leadership team painted locker rooms and gym areas. To expand the beautification of the area beyond this project, the volunteers also created nearly 200 seed pods to be distributed and planted by the YMCA’s summer camp participants.

Also in Pittsburgh, 50 members of PPG’s Architectural Coatings business’ marketing team painted 12 art tables and an activity room at the Sarah Heinz House camp in the Ellwood City area of Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile in Madison, Wisconsin, members of PPG’s Science & Technology (S&T) team were joined by University of Wisconsin Madison graduate students to paint a hallway and kitchen at the Goodman Community Center.
