PPG gives high school girls a chance to learn more about technology fields

Published : 8-May-2024

PPG is committed to boosting female representation in technical fields, a special challenge in Brazil. To address this, we are proactively investing in transformative initiatives that inspire futures in tech.

One of them is "Girls in Tech”, an initiative in partnership with the non-profit organization Casa Hacker, that aims to empower young women to pursue careers in technology. Together, we have launched the third edition of the Girls in Tech program in the Sumaré, Brazil region.

"We're thrilled to support initiatives like this that guide the way for greater diversity and inclusion in STEM fields. Encouraging young women to explore their passion for science, technology, engineering, and math is essential for driving innovation and progress,” said Raquel Klemz, leader, Communications, Latin America. “We're proud to invest in endeavors that empower the next generation of female scientists and engineers."

This program offers training in technology-related subjects totally free of charge to teenaged’girls from public schools in Sumaré. Classes include the study of electronics, computer programming, robotics and 3D printing. Furthermore, this year, the project will promote meetings to exchange experiences with participants from prior and special guests.

Casa Hacker chose 21 high school girls to participate from among the applicants interviewed. All live near PPG’s Sumaré coatings manufacturing plant and meet certain demographic and behavior-related requirements.

Classes, which began in April, are taking place after school three times per week through December 2024.
