PPG Foundation awards 2024 National Merit Scholarships

Published : 16-Aug-2024

Among this year's 31 recipients of a PPG Foundation Scholarship are aspiring medical professionals, chemists, lawyers, engineers, and researchers. These students join thousands of awardees before them in receiving scholarships from the PPG Foundation Scholarship Program, conducted in partnership with the NATIONAL MERIT®  Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Meet each of our 2024 scholarship recipients here.

Recipients are granted financial rewards to accelerate their undergraduate studies and career trajectories. Since the inception of the PPG Foundation Scholarship Program in 1956, over 3,000 scholarships have been granted.
The 2024 awardees consist of both children of PPG employees and students residing in communities near PPG facilities. They will receive annual awards for a maximum of four years of undergraduate studies, or until they fulfill their undergraduate requirements (whichever occurs first).

“The 2024 class of National Merit Scholarship recipients is a bright addition to the thousands of students before them who have pursued opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related fields through the program,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director, PPG Foundation and corporate global social responsibility. “The PPG Foundation is proud to support these students and future leaders and ensure they have the resources needed for success on their higher education journeys.”

Colin Grant is one of the recipients and hopes to pursue a career as a robotics engineer.

"The PPG Foundation National Merit Scholarship provides me with the resources and support to further study my passion of Computer Science in hopes to someday make a difference by developing solutions to mitigate the damage caused by modern lifestyles while continuing to spread knowledge to future generations. I am incredibly thankful to be selected and awarded this prestigious scholarship and thank PPG for making this possible.”

This year's Sue Sloan Scholarship award winner is Aarushi Raj, child of Anurag Raj, sustainability business partner in Packaging. This award honors Sloan's legacy, who served as the former executive director of the PPG Foundation and was deeply involved with our participation in the NMSC program, even serving as a director of NMSC's Board from 2008 to 2014. Raj intends to attend University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to study Biology and English and pursue a career as a physician.
