PPG has unveiled new performance data for CORAFLON® PLATINUM powder coating that demonstrated its exceptional color retention capabilities and reinforced its status as a standout solution in the building products industry. This innovative product has undergone rigorous testing, demonstrating to outperform competitor products by an impressive twenty times in year-over-year color retention comparisons. Launched in 2021, Coraflon Platinum is an FEVE (fluoroethylene vinyl ether) powder engineered for curtain walls, storefronts, architectural extrusions, plate/brake metal and other monumental applications.
PPG CORAFLON Platinum: Elevating Color & Durability Standards

Unmatched Performance Data
Recently, Atlas Material Testing Solutions conducted laboratory tests in accordance with Section 8.9 of the Fenestration and Glazing Industrial Alliance and American Architectural Manufacturers Association (FGIA/AAMA) 2605 standards. The resulting data demonstrated that PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coating had a minimal 6% loss of colors over five years, followed by color stabilization showcasing its long-term durability.
Most notably, the formulation exhibited 20 times the color retention of similarly colored competitor products within the same timeframe.
During the five-year comparison, a leading competitor’s Slate Gray shade underwent a significant loss in color with both their Slate Gray and Bone White shades losing 80% or more of their gloss. In contrast, PPG Coraflon Platinum powder coating had nominal loss of color and gloss, establishing it as an industry benchmark technology.

Long-Term Stability Beyond Expectations
Extending the performance evaluation to a seven-year period, Coraflon Platinum continues to meet and exceed the criteria set forth by FGIA/AAMA 2605 specifications. The coating has successfully undergone more than nine years of third-party testing, including 4,000 hours of cyclic corrosion testing, proving its resilience against the elements. This exceptional performance extends well beyond the ten-year benchmark, making it a reliable choice for architects and builders alike.
A Commitment to Sustainability and Aesthetic Versatility
PPG understands that our customers demand not only high performance, but also a commitment to sustainably advantaged solutions. PPG Coraflon Platinum coatings are formulated without harmful substances* such as TGIC (triglycidyl isocyanurate), PFOA(perfluorooctanoic acid), fluorosurfactants, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), HAPs (hazardous air pollutants), and other hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with environmental standards like REACH.
These benefits are complemented by an extensive range of colors, effects and gloss levels, giving architects and designers the flexibility to create stunning architectural features never before possible in FEVE powder coatings. The groundbreaking formulation also offers 20% higher transfer efficiency than standard FEVE powders.
The PPG Coraflon Platinum color trend collection introduces themes such as Embrace, Engage and Escape, featuring mineral tones and textures that replicate the appearance of natural materials like cement, stone and terracotta. This versatility allows for creative expression while maintaining the highest levels of corrosion and weathering resistance.
Elevating Architectural Standards
As the industry continues to evolve, Coraflon Platinum stands out as a benchmark for quality and durability. With its impressive color retention, gloss stability and sustainability advantages, PPG is well positioned to meet the demands required of modern architecture.
“Our customers demand high levels of performance and sustainability, and as partners we always strive to meet their needs,” said Marizeth Carvalho, PPG global powder lead, Industrial Coatings. “We know customers have long valued the color and durability of our PPG Coraflon Platinum coatings, and this new data emphasizes our ability to outperform competitors in the market.”
For architects and builders seeking a reliable, high-performance powder coating solution, PPG Coraflon Platinum is the clear choice, ensuring that their projects will not only look exceptional, but also stand the test of time.
