Among this year’s 31 recipients of a PPG Foundation Scholarship are aspiring neurosurgeons, lawyers, engineers, and researchers. These students join thousands of awardees before them in receiving scholarships from the PPG Foundation Scholarship Program, conducted in partnership with the NATIONAL MERIT® Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
PPG Foundation awards 2023 National Merit Scholarships
Meet each of our 2023 scholarship recipients here.
Recipients receive monetary awards to accelerate their undergraduate studies and career paths. Since the establishment of the PPG Foundation Scholarship Program in 1956, more than 3,000 scholarships have been awarded.
The 2023 recipients include children of PPG employees and students who reside in communities near PPG facilities. They will receive awards annually for up to four years of undergraduate studies, or until undergraduate requirements are met (whichever comes first).
“The PPG Foundation is proud to champion these new scholarship recipients in their academic endeavors as they enter college and pursue their respective careers,” said Malesia Dunn, executive director, PPG Foundation and corporate global social responsibility. “Our long-standing partnership with the National Merit Scholarship Program allows us to encourage these students by opening up opportunities for them in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)-related fields so they feel fully supported on their higher education journeys.”
Tridib Chakraborty is one of the recipients and hopes to pursue a career as a neurosurgeon.
“Receiving this prestigious award from the PPG Foundation gives me the courage to pursue biochemistry at the University of Michigan,” said Chakraborty. “From helping students pursue the arts, to empowering the next generation of engineers, the devotion that PPG has for the future generations education is unparalleled.”
This year’s Sue Sloan Scholarship award winner is Grace Wang, child of Feng Wang, senior research associate, Specialty Coatings & Materials, Photochrom R&D. This award honors Sloan’s legacy, who served as the former executive director of the PPG Foundation and was deeply involved with our participation in the NMSC program, even serving as a director of NMSC’s Board from 2008 to 2014. Wang intends to study Chemistry at Duke University.
