Outstanding community contributions recognized by PPG
In 2021, 12 groups of employees from global PPG locations went above and beyond to make lasting differences in the lives of others. For their contributions to their communities, leading with kindness and helping others thrive, their sites have been named recipients of the 2021 PPG Community Engagement Awards.
Meet the Winners
PPG employees make life-changing contributions to their communities and their local neighbors. By completing impactful PPG COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® projects, addressing local social and community sustainability issues, building long-standing partnerships, engaging students in science and color and much more, their efforts stand out. Read on for highlights from each site.
Tianjin, China
Employees facilitated the PPG Scholarship Program at 10 local schools for 200 students. Volunteers also improved the campuses of two schools, TEDA Nursery and TEDA Xingyoubaobei Autism Rehabilitation Center, through the Colorful Communities program.
Milan, Italy
Employees helped Buzzi Children Hospital buy COVID-19 equipment, renovated a lab at the National Museum of Science and Technology, and supported various local organizations.
Pittsburgh, PA, USA
PPG’s Pittsburgh Area Science Education Council sponsored STEM events and demonstrations at venues like the Carnegie Science Center, the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair, and the Latino Community Center’s Back to School Bash.
Runcorn, United Kingdom
Employees conducted a “virtual walk” from Paris to London to raise donations for Halton Haven Hospice. They also facilitated grants, made Christmas packages for needy families, and donated to a local animal shelter on Giving Tuesday.
Moraiya, India
Employees helped combat COVID-19 by providing hygiene equipment to community centers, setting up a care center, distributing oxygen concentrators, and supplying food and essentials.
Quattordio, Italy
At the Quattordio Urban Art Festival, PPG volunteers created a mural. Employees also organized a fundraiser for Fondazione Uspidalet to buy life-saving equipment for kids, honoring a late colleague.
Brno, Czech Republic
Employees supported local partners with food and resources during the pandemic. After an F4 tornado in South Moravia, they provided financial aid and continued supporting Charity Partners and educational programs.
Huntsville, AL, USA
Local employees partnered for STEM education and beautification efforts, involving programs like Space Camp, Aviation Challenge, and scholarships through the Women’s Economic Development Foundation.
Delaware, Ohio, USA
Employees collaborated with local institutions for educational programs, distributed STEM supplies, supported a collision repair training program, and inspired future female STEM leaders through Cool Tech Girls and the American Association of University Women.
Sacavém, Portugal
Employees aided the local food bank, participated in two beautification projects, and joined the STEM Talent Girl program to inspire future female STEM professionals.
