Basecoats

Solventborne basecoats have been the industry standard for decades. As well as offering excellent appearance, color, smoothness and good chip protection, they are very robust for a wide variety of application conditions and paint layering compatibilities. High Solids products are available to meet more stringent, regional VOC emission regulations.

PPG’s Andaro^® Tint Dispersion Technology enables designers to create new color spaces. This technology offers higher color saturation (chroma) normally obtained only by using organic dyes, which have typically been limited to use on concept and aftermarket show cars.

PPG’s Andaro^® provides the high chroma and color saturation associated with organic dyes, but in a durable pigment that passes OEM specifications, making it suitable for use in traditional automotive paint shops. With extensive patents for our work with unique tints that form the key to making pigments less opaque and more transparent, PPG is the industry leader in the development of this transformational technology.
